| Karl F. Bach is retired
and lives in Port Townsend, Washington. He is a composer and arranger of songs and music for band, chorus and
orchestra. During the composer’s
career he served in The United States Navy Band, Washington, D.C. from 1956
to 1974, retiring as a Senior Chief Musician. He was a vocalist, percussionist and administrator in the Navy Band
and was a “plank owner” (charter member) of the Navy Band’s choral group, the Sea
Chanters. Upon retiring from the U.S. Navy Band, he
attended George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, graduating in 1980
with a Bachelor of Music degree and certification to teach music. He taught music both in Virginia and Oregon
before retiring to Washington State in 2000. He is timpanist with the Port Townsend Community Orchestra and served
on the orchestra’s board of directors for several years and as its president
for two years. He has performed as
percussionist with the Port Angeles Symphony and Chamber Orchestras and the
Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra. He teaches
percussion privately. He holds a B.A.
degree in English from The American University, Washington, D.C., and a
M.A.T. degree from Lewis and Clark College, Portland, Oregon. He began serving as the Conductor of the
Port Townsend Summer Band in 2001 and continues in that capacity.
